This patio was built with reclaimed granite slabs to match the historical gray stone walls on this Barnstable property. The earth in this area is solid clay and the property seems to have an underground river that has caused two areas to sink 5 feet every 10 years for over a hundred years. The homeowner requested that the patio be built totally dry because of related basement moisture issues, so each stone was carefully levelled and compacted in fine crushed stone on top of a densely graded, but well-drained unlike 3/4 process dense grade base, compacted sand and gravel. The entire patio sits atop and drains into large drywells to accommodate rain water.
